I love this store.
I stopped by the Blue Chip Group retail store on Columbus Day. It was the perfect day to stock up on some staples, and explore a place I had never been before. The store is in an industrial area, I'm guessing very near the actual warehouse, and was new and tidy. They have many general food storage items besides the gluten free selection, including dried fruit, "magic mix," Morning Moo's milk replacement, dried beans and legumes, spice mixes, and so many other things to look at. Many of the items I've never seen before! (Dried pineapple, anyone?)
Off to one side is a small room with shelves for the gluten free selection. Most of the gluten free foods are packaged in 5 pound bags, and there are a few 25 pound bags of flours. I ended up buying 25 pounds of sorghum flour, 25 pounds of tapioca starch, a 5 pound bag of pancake mix, and had my eye on a few other things.
The Blue Chip retail store is the perfect place to get huge bags of the stuff you use. I recommend it!
Some of my favorite things to buy from Blue Chip:
- xanthan gum
- sorghum flour
- tapioca starch
- quinoa flour
- gluten free oats
- Basic Sour Cream Muffin Mix
- Pancake Mix
- I have yet to try it, but I bought Scone Mix (fry bread, not this kind of scones)

Do they have listed on their products the shelf life? Or do you know where I could find the shelf life of flours or the whole grains in general? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Colette,
ReplyDeleteI believe each package is stamped with the "use by" date, so that you have a general shelf life on the package. Other than that, whole grains are perfect for storing in the freezer. You want to be sure that they come to room temperature before you bake with them (it affects that properties of your baking).
That said, I leave my whole grains on the counter in air-sealed containers and have never had a problem. I would say that they all get used in about 6 months anyway, at least at my house.
Thanks for your question!
The Blue Chip Scone Mix is the best scone mix I have ever had! While trying to find gluten-free foods for my sister, who has Celiac's, I came upon this mix in a Logan Wal-mart. It was so good that even though my family can eat gluten, we still choose this scone mix. So good, especially with a local, or homemade honey butter! However, I can no longer find it in Logan. If anyone know where I can find some close by let me know. Otherwise I've been "importing" it from SLC or Provo. :)
