Cookie Comparison

We have two kinds of packaged gluten free cookies sitting around right now.

It's the battle of the cookie, and I thought I would compare the value/taste of the two.
First, Jennie's Macaroons. It's an 8 oz can, which according to the back, contains 18 macaroons. When we bought these from Against the Grain, I assumed the macaroons inside would be the same size as the single-serving macaroon my friend had just bought (that was about 2 inches across). We ate her macaroons in the car on the way home, and they were pretty tasty - a regular one, and a chocolate one. In fact, we both decided we couldn't finish them, but they were sweet, chewy and good.Next, Whole Foods had this 7 oz package of Pamela's Simplebites Ginger Mini Snapz on their gluten free aisle. (As a sidenote, Whole Foods does nothing beyond the existing packaging to make it easier to shop gluten free. You have to know what you want, or be prepared to compare all the products of that type to find the right one. It's a little frustrating, but maybe I'm just spoiled by Against the Grain and Harmons).

Anyway, these were so good! Crunchy, small, and very spicy. In fact, the spice builds up so you don't want to eat too many (handy!).

Price: The two packages are about the same weight, and about the same price - around $3.49. However, the Ginger Snapz bag was packed to the brim! I was so impressed, because rarely do you buy a "bag" of whatever and open it to find it nearly full! Usually with cereal, crackers, cookies, anything like this - half the bag is air. Way to go, Pamela!

Taste: They are both quite tasty, but I'm leaning toward the Ginger Snapz. I was disappointed to open the macaroons and find out that they weren't the large size I had imagined, but each was about the size of a quarter. Thus, the can they came in was only about 40% full when I opened it :(.

I recommend both of these cookies, but if you want to feel like you are getting a deal (this usually soothes my tired shopping soul), buy some Ginger Snapz!

1 taste testers:

  1. I used to eat those chocolate maca roons all the time when I worked at the Good Earth. Those things are tasty! But I've had those ginger snap cookies too, and they are very good as well. Mmmmm cookies . . .
